Wow… what a weekend for our Endorphin Fitness athletes. We had numerous athletes who have been training vigorously for Ironman 70.3 North Carolina for many months and show time was this past weekend. We also had athletes race in several XC meets, DCCX Cross, Marine Corps 10k, Marine Corps Marathon, NICA’s season finale, Swim-Run VA, and the King of The James.
Our athletes’ hard work and dedication showed on Ironman 70.3 race day. Mary Jane Willis was super excited to race in her first IM 70.3 race and she did great! Dawn Carter had a strong swim, a strong bike (even with a flat tire) and put her everything into the run. Lenora had a strong race, finishing third in her AG in a race of over 2,000 competitors! Jack Mariner headed into NC 70.3 with a conservative approach due to some injuries, but his goal was to finish feeling like his body was healthy which he did. David Fouse also had a strong race just four weeks after racing Ironman Chattanooga. We had several athletes set new personal bests. Bill Deaton had a strong race finishing in 4:49, his personal best. Allan Ng also set a personal best for the distance taking 15 minutes off his previous time. Matt Myers set a huge PR taking 90 minutes off his previous time. Last but not least, a very special congrats to Coach Erin Horil on an amazing race – 1st age group, 5th overall, and a 2018 World’s Spot. Excellent job! We are so proud of all our athletes who accomplished their goals this weekend.
Coach Michael and Jim Fisher raced Swim-Run VA having a blast all the way to a 3rd place overall finish.
For our XC athletes, we had strong race results as well. Hannah Lupica, Colby Burcham, Lane Mumford, and Chase Brooksbank all had strong results at the Colonial District XC meet. Logan White, Cooper Albright, and Parker Albright all finished strong under tough conditions at the Roanoke Metro XC meet – Parker took 3rd and Cooper 11th. Kylie Bonser and Lucy Poh both ran commanding races in their middle school meet this week. Alexandra Poole took 2nd in her meet, and Paige Lind raced took 6th in her meet.
At the Marine Corps 10k, Jim Fuller ran a very strong race, placing 5th in his age group. Heather Williams persevered under tough conditions at the marathon as well! Hans Heerens ran the marathon in 3:43:46, which was a strong performance. Hans did a fantastic job with his race plan, nutrition, and training for this event.
Several strong results at DCCX Cross race. Presley Evans took the win on Saturday and claimed 4th on Sunday. Sadé Smith had to fight for first place Juniors 16-19 and came away with the win! Ava Larkin and Emma Weaver raced strong with a 1st and 4th place finish respectively in the Juniors 13-14. Florence Lamirand and Coach Anne Sheehy finished strong in the Masters race.
In the final race of the NICA Mountain Bike Series, Rex Nguyen took 6th, Jake Dysart 5th, and Michael Mason 14th. Jake and Michael came back to race the King of The James on Sunday as a team and took 4th.
Congrats to all our athletes!
