We have a ton of races to report on this week, including the USAT Age Group Nationals, Pink Power Triathlon, Steelhead 70.3, and a few others! It was a big week of racing for our adult athletes while many youth athletes rested after competing in Nationals last weekend. Congrats to all athletes who raced! Let’s get started.
We had a ton of our adult athletes out in Cleveland, Ohio this weekend for the USAT Age Group Nationals. It’s always great to see adults from all of our programs in one place, and we had a strong set of races across the sprint and olympic distances!
In the sprint distance at Age Group Nationals, the race was turned into a run-bike-run duathlon. However, our athletes raced hard despite the change in race! Grace Sheehy took 8th place in her AG. Keagan Carroll took 39th in hers, and Cheryl Shaw took took 12th. Mary Jane Willis competed in the Sprint-turned-Duathlon at Age Group Nationals, and had two fantastic run performances! Scott Dixon also competed and had a strong race.
Andrew Rose had a strong weekend at USAT Age Group Nationals, competing in both the Olympic and sprint distance races, and will likely qualify for Worlds in the sprint distance.
Katie Elliott had a breakthrough race in the Olympic Distance and finished 18th in her AG, qualifying for Age Group Worlds. Lenora Mariner had a standout swim performance and hammered the bike! Christian Locke strung together a strong bike/run leg after toughing out a rough swim course. Glenn Young took 86th in his AG. Jean Kleitz and Christy Murrell took 42nd and 97th in their age groups, respectively. Congrats athletes!
The Pink Power Triathlon is an awesome event- we have had several ladies training for over the last several weeks in a training program specifically for the race. It is a women only beginner friendly tri which is a great opportunity to get started in the sport. Our athletes had a great showing in the race- congrats ladies! Renee Kunnen won the overall title, congrats Renee! Marisa Ruotolo took 4th overall and 1st age group followed by sister Sarah Ruotolo who took 2nd in her age group. Nancy Stelling took 1st in her AG, Lori Green took 2nd place in hers. Sandra Gray took home third in her age group, Meredith Newcomb snagged 4th in her age group, and Peyton Skansi took second in hers! Kelly Berling, Christy Maschal, Nancy Stelling, Sandrine Thominet, Laura Vance, Joanna Richie and Kathy Lukhard trained for the Pink Power Triathlon and all had great performances on race day, proving their hard work!
At the Peter and Gerald Teeuwen Memorial Time Trial, Sarah Look absolutely crushed this, finishing first in her AG- well done Sarah!
Julie Patterson had a breakthrough race at Ironman 70.3 Steelhead, finishing 5th in a strong women’s pro field. Caitlin Weston also competed in her first long course race at Steelhead, with a strong time of 6:06.59! Conditions were very rough, and she persevered on a difficult day.
Kris Scott completed the Tour de Frederick cycling event (107 miles) and averaged an impressive 17.1 mph.
Jason Elliot competed in the Sunset 5k at Age Group Nationals (while there to support his wife, Katie Elliot in her pursuit of worlds!) and placed first in his age group and 9th overall in this impromptu race!
Congrats to all our athletes!
