Tanner Smith found his love for endurance competition in high school, competing in cross country and track focusing on middle distance races. While in college, he experimented with a wide range of endurance events while racing on the trails and roads from 5Ks to half marathons, and competing on his school’s triathlon team. He even raced a couple ultramarathons in which he secured a second-place finish in his first 50 miler. While working towards his undergraduate degree in Biomedical Science and continuing his own training, he first entered into the coaching realm taking an assistant coaching position with a local high school and middle school cross country team. There, he found his passion that has led him to working with other athletes – from first time racers to athletes competing on a Division 1 level. Tanner takes a holistic approach to coaching through seeking to understand each individual’s psychological and physiological background in order to promote sustainable and long-term development. While pouring into his athletes, Tanner continues to compete in triathlon and running races today with many strong results to his name. When not at work, you can find him reading at a coffee shop, hanging out with friends around town, or racking up some miles on the trails!
