It was a huge weekend of racing for EF athletes! Two of our main team races, IM VA 70.3 and Richmond’s own East Coast Triathlon Festival were this weekend. With most of our adult and junior athletes competing, it was an awesome weekend with some amazing results. Congrats to all our athletes. Let’s get started!
At the East Coast Triathlon Festival, we had youth athletes competing in seven of the nine races of the day. Our athletes raced through tough conditions, with several races proceeding through driving rain. Results are as follows for each race.
In the Youth Elite Female race, Ava Larkin finished 8th. Samantha Kayne came in at 16th. Lucy Nunziata had an awesome day in her second race in the category finishing 19th, qualifying her for nationals. Annalise Williams took 35th. Caroline Osenga came in at 55th. Anneliese Rogerson took 59th. Kory Johnston came in at 64th. Emma Weaver took 70th place, finishing a strong race after overcoming injuries over the last year.
In the Youth Elite Male race, Jackson Foster took 11th. Tate Frost came in at 13th and qualified for nationals as well. Jacob Crouch took 23rd. Luke Craven came in at 46th. Roman Steis took 38th. Johnathan Leon-Guerrero took 58th. Joshua Gray placed 69th. Caleb Harlow took 73rd, and Montgomery Curren took 74th.
In the Junior Elite Female race, Hope Frost had an awesome race and grabbed 3rd on the podium. Zoe Van Winckel had a strong race as well coming in 4th with a strong swim and bike. Alexandra Poole grabbed 6th place. Hannah Ye took 15th. Abigail Church took 18th. Emme Cate Heilbrun took 26th place. Megan Buchanan grabbed 32nd. Jennifer Zheng took 37th. Sarah Ruotolo took 66th. Peyton Johnson took 69th.
In the Junior Elite Male race, we had Alexander Tan coming in at 43rd and Connor Doyle finishing 54th.
In the 11-19 age group race, we had several athletes with strong finishes across multiple age groups. In the girls 11-12 category, we had Eve Frost taking 1st, Andrea Rogerson taking 3rd, Annika Rogerson taking 12th, Austin Harlow coming in at 18th, and Ariana Hotchfelder grabbing 24th. In the boys 11-12 category, Gabe Nunziata took 1st place. For the boys 13-15, we had Isaac Lamprecht grabbing 2nd, Matthew Estes grabbing 4th, Casey Hough coming in at 5th, and Patrick Harlow coming in at 9th. In the boys 16-19, Daniel Brishke finished strong in 1st, Alessandro Bovo also got a podium with 3rd place, and Greg Flynn took 4th place.
For the 5-10 age group race, Avery Diette took 1st place in the 7-8 male category. In the girls 7-8 age group, Mia Stimson took 1st place. In the 5-10 duathlon, Ethan Diette took 2nd place. Josie Nunziata took 1st and Ellie Harlow took 2nd overall in the girls under 10 category.
Many of our athletes that also competed in Junior Elite, Youth Elite, and age group races also competed in the first ever Mixed Relay at ECTF. EF had 7 teams racing which all had strong races. Our highest scoring team finished fourth of 30 teams competing.
In another one of our team races, Ironman 70.3 Virginia, Rohana Meade, Matt Schiller, Ryan Clennan, Mickie Fleming, Greg Mccarthy, Katlyn Smith, Mike Williams, James Hewitt, David Knicely, Meredith Newcomb, Morgan Sears, and Emily Sherald, completed their FIRST half-full distance triathlon this weekend at Ironman VA 70.3!
Matt Myers (PR), Scott Vanwagner (PR) Jax Bethel, Matt Kwarta, Austin McDaniel (25 min PR), Katie Skiff (hour+ PR), Jessica Small, Tim Brown, Tina Shiver, and Sandrine Thominet also completed IM VA with awesome results.
Elaine Rondina completed the Uncorked Half Marathon!
Andrea Bovo had a strong race in the ASK 5k placing 3rd in his AG.
At the A10 championships, Johanna Lupica posted a huge 5k PR!
At the HOVA 10k, Sarah Look ran a gutsy race.
At the BMO Vancouver Marathon, coach Ryan Middleton posted a PR to finish 17th overall and 5th American.
John Edwards did the Flying Pig Marathon and supported his friend while knocking off some awesome mileage.
