Race Recap: November 10th – November 11th
November 13, 2018 Nick Seitz

Endorphin Fitness athletes had an awesome weekend of racing with a ton of results to cover!  Our athletes set PRs left and right at  the Richmond Marathon, 8K, and Half Marathon.  We also had impressive races at local high school track and field meets, The National Aquabike Championship, USAT Multisport National Championships, and several others. Congrats to all our athletes who raced!

Big congrats to all the athletes at the Richmond Marathon.  At the Richmond Half Marathon!  Strong results from EF Coaches Ryan Middleton, Kevin Mallon, and Mike Crossin.  Ryan ran a blistering 1:11 to cross the line as the 2nd Richmond-local!  Both Kevin and Mike had solid races.  Sarah Look PRed by almost 20 minutes, Andrea Bovo PRed by 2 minutes, Scott Evans 3 minutes, Matt Myers 2 minutes, and Mary Jane Willis also set a PR.  Michelle Fang, Tina Shiver, Ed Olsen, Jax Bethel, Mickie Fleming, and Monica Woodward all had incredible races as well.

At the Richmond Marathon, Chad Albright ran a Boston qualifying and PR time of 2:55:37. Laura Cordes also qualified for Boston in her FIRST EVER marathon, also obviously setting a PR. Rachael Bowling completed the marathon despite some barriers that could have kept her from racing! John Edwards also finished with a strong time, positioning himself great for his next goals! Jessica Small ran and set a new PR by 15 minutes. Chris Clark grabbed a HUGE PR, coming in at 3:07!  Myles Baker shaved 10 minutes off of his time from last year. Stephen Abbott completed his first marathon with smart pacing and a well executed race!

At the VCU Health 8k, Kat Samsky ran a blistering pace to take first in her AG and 7th overall! Rachel Wood executed a beautiful negative split race to pace her daughter to a strong result! Mark Dupuis, David Knicely, Emily Kontos, Meredith Newcomb, Steve Smith, Charlene Wilhelm, and Alex Tan all had awesome races.

Shout out to Lenora Mariner and Dennis Kao for working as coaches during the marathon and helping encourage racers along the way!

Several impressive results for our high school runners in state championships….

  • In the Virginia Independent Schools State Champs, Hope Frost came from the 2nd seed to win by 34 seconds!
  • In the VHSL State Champs 3A Division, Cooper Albright took 21st with a course PR.
  • In the VHSL State Champs 5A Division, Colby Burcham took the state title, Abby Church took 6th, and Jake Schindel took all-state honors.
  • At the NEPSTA Division I Champs in CT, Alexandra Poole set a course PR to take 7th.

At the Aquabike National Champs, Katie Elliott had a strong race to overcome many technical issues throughout the race from mechanicals to bee stings.

Jason Elliot completed the Miami Man long course Duathlon this weekend. Despite the flare up of an injury a couple weeks before race day, Jason followed necessary measures to get to the start line and execute a smart race that kept him healthy during the race and allowed him to place well! Jason will be competing in the world championships for this event!

At the USAT Multisport National Championship, Christy Murrell took 11th in her AG and qualified for Worlds!

At a local 5k, Gena Casagrande had a solid run in the midst of a huge training block!

Phew! Lot of results- great job athletes! Take a moment to recover, then start planning for 2019!
