This week’s message is going to be more instructional than motivational. Over my 16 years coaching athletes, I have realized that many don’t know how to set up their Garmin watch to get the most out of it. Too many times I will be coaching an athlete at practice and ask them what pace they are averaging to learn they don’t know. Also, when analyzing workout files, I oftentimes see athletes load 20 some files for one workout (you know who you are), obviously showing that they do not know how to utilize the lap function. There is a better way guys!
Therefore, I am going to show you how to set up your watch for two key types of workouts so that you can get the most out of your device. You are going to learn how to create a specific screen on your watch for steady runs like recovery runs or long runs. You will also learn how to create a specific screen for any interval-based runs like speed work. I will also discuss how I use the auto lap function on my Garmin.
To do this, I am going to use my Garmin 735xt and focus specifically on running, but I utilize these same screens for cycling and swimming though I change up the metrics slightly. Additionally, though I don’t personally use other brands, you will likely be able to apply the same theory to other brands.
The best way to show you is through video so click on the link following and learn how to set up your watch properly today…
