Earlier this week, I planned an early morning river swim at the break of dawn. Last minute, I decided to wake up my oldest daughter and invite her to come along to kayak…she quickly accepted. She giggled as I shivered jumping in the water and then spent the next 30 minutes matching my strokes with her paddle. As the sun crested the water line, my mind quickly got lost in thought asking how many 9-year-olds get the opportunity to experience beauty like this, fitness like this, life like this. I was thankful that I could give her the opportunity to do so.
What is living? I don’t mean surviving the day-to-day grind. What does truly living look like? For me, it is making the most of every day; experiencing things that few ever will. As endurance athletes, we get the opportunity to do this daily. We get the opportunity to watch sunrises with only our breathing to keep us company, to explore trails that few have ever ventured down, and to enjoy the company of great friends pursuing goals alongside us. Don’t take it for granted – it is truly a gift.
Today, recognize the gift you have. Embrace it and make the most out of it. Fitness opens doors for you – to a healthier lifestyle and better life. Take advantage of it. Be More.
