I spent the last week with my oldest son in Haiti. Many years ago, I made a commitment to take each of my kids on a mission trip when they turned ten. It was an amazing week of not only serving the Haitian people but experiencing this beautiful country. We loved on kids, built a house, and explored the culture and landscape.
Much of this trip was extremely active, and to experience all that was possible, you had to be relatively fit. I have never been so appreciative of my fitness, and my sons as well as he shares my love for triathlon. Yes, I appreciate my fitness when I set a new PR or win a race, but this was different. My fitness allowed me to experience more life.
As athletes, we live in a world where we are constantly comparing ourselves to a very small percentage of humans who are extremely fit. Sometimes it helps to step outside of this world and see our fitness through a new lens. Our fitness opens doors for us that others simply cannot step through. These doors lead to more exploring, more activity with our families, more serving the community, and more life.
Enjoy your fitness! Not only in your next race but also in your day-to-day life.
Be More. Live Red.
