Luke Craven joined the EF Youth Triathlon Team in Fall 2016. He was initially very hesitant about the bike with little cycling experience but got a road bike and has fallen in love with it. He could be found riding his bike daily in his neighborhood at the end of the summer to prepare for the team. Due to this, he has improved a ton on the bike. He has applied the same determination as well to swimming and is making great strides. Running came natural to him though, and the coaches quickly noticed his potential at practice. At the team’s first race of the season at the Healthy Kids Running Series Richmond, Coach Michael felt something special was in store for Luke. At the beginning of the race, Luke immediately ran just off the lead of two runners. After his first loop, Coach Michael encouraged him to move into 2nd position to prepare for the final sprint, and despite fatigue, Luke immediately found another gear and bridged the gap. Coming out of the woods into the sprint, Luke had secured a 2nd place position and was chasing down the leader only to fall just a few seconds short. His determination and winning spirit were an inspiration to all of us. We look forward to the future as we chase his potential.
